Well what a match we had at Tilford, the sun was shining the tempting pub was in sight and the field provided some enticing opportunities or a challenge to hit boundaries up the hill.
Tilford won the toss and elected to bat. With Nathan behind the stumps, Danny got the ball rolling with the first over, which saw a good run out and got Elstead in the mood for cricket. However, Tilford recovered from the early loss, consolidated their position and steadily kept the scoreboard ticking. Halfway through the innings Nathan handed over the gloves to Danny and took his first over, which welcomed a second run out followed by an LBW on the last ball of the 12th over. Tilford's umpire commented "Think that is the first LBW I have given at this level, but it was plum". This did follow a number of calls for an LBW decision by Elstead. Lesson 1 learnt during the season. Unfortunately this was the last joy Elstead had in the Tilford innings who consolidated again and went on to set another challenging target.
Could it be the night? 7 players managed to find the boundary (8 boundaries in total) some of which were up the hill and not so many down the hill, guess we like a challenge! With all these runs flowing we reached our highest gross run total to date of 113, however only Austin, Lucas and Fin managed to keep their wicket and the net total did not look as appealing. The innings was entertaining, with run outs, cover drives and fours galore, a fitting end to an enjoyable league season.
