Following on from last weeks sure thing being stolen by the rain, the 2's were able to maintain composure and secure a solid win with contributions from all.
Playing on Farncombe's second pitch is always a challenge with both square and outfield in questionable condition. Winning the toss and electing to bowl Elstead opened with Charlie and the skipper. Farncombe set off at a clip for the first few overs with some solid batting but also aided by a pitch that gave Dickie a headache, with balls shooting low to his legs, one managing to sneak through and hit his helmet lying behind. When Dazzer got the first wicket it was followed by a flurry of wickets for him and Charlie leaving Farncombe in a daze at 50 odd for 5. Fordy and Keith continued the good work and we went to drinks at 72 for 6, expecting the match to be over soon with around 100 to get. It was not to be though, as the following batsmen dug in and continued to score, defending well and dispatching the bad balls. Young Sam picked up two wickets and Keith another one but not even Wayno and Sam W could get us the last wicket so we toiled through the last 20 overs with Farncombe finishing 152, 9 down.
A little frustrated with our efforts but confident that 4/over should not be too onerous Keith and Wayne opened up the batting. The pitch often seems worse when it's your turn to bat but I'm not sure the pitch had much to do with the early dismissal of Keith, as he clipped a ball high to square on his 4th ball! Wayno managed to pull a muscle and enjoyed a brief deep heat rub from Fordy but all in vain, as Archie called him through for a quick single that proved a little too quick for our frontline batsman. Step up Archie and Saul, who kept us on track with the run rate with some positive intent. After the 100 was reached things slowed a little and fingers began to be chewed with the dismissal of Archie and Saul, with now Dickie and Sam making slow starts on this tricky wicket. Dickie began to get into his stride as Sam W was out and Chopper came in to follow Dickies lead. Taking advantage of byes and attacking the ball got us over the line with 3 overs to spare.
A solid performance all round and we are still in with a shout at promotion. Hurrah!
